Webinar Title: Room Pressurization

Webinar Level:

Webinar Purpose:

How does room pressurization aid infection control? What constitutes good engineering design practice for protective environment? What are the Joint Commission elements of performance for ventilation systems that serve areas specially designed to control airborne contaminants (such as biological agents, gases, fumes, dust)? This program will discuss the elements room pressurization within a healthcare environment. Typical health care applications will be reviewed; along with room pressurization design criteria; room pressure controls; regulations, standards and guidelines; and maintaining a pressurized space.

Webinar Objectives:

At the completion of this program, the participant will be able to:

1. Understand basic concepts of room pressurization
2. Understand positive and negative room pressurization; and room pressurization applications in a health care environment
3. Understand Room Pressurization from the ‘Environment of Care’ perspective.

Webinar Outline:

  • Identify the room design criteria used to create a protective environment for patient and health care worker
  • Review current industry guidelines for protective environments such as: Airborne Infectious Isolation (AII), Protective Environment (PE), Laboratory and Operating Rooms
  • Review room pressurization from the ‘Environment of Care’ perspective.

Target Audience:  Facility Engineers, Infection Control Professionals and Quality & Safety Staff
